A group of volunteers from the company Vertex Pharmaceuticals  came to the Foundation A LA PAR to enjoy a day of solidarity with a real and immediate social impact for the Foundation: the rehabilitation of facilities and renovation of equipment for the students of Colegio de Educación Especial A La Par.

Through an inclusive activity together with professionals with intellectual disabilities from A LA PAR’s carpentry workshop, the company’s volunteers worked as a team to assemble tables, chairs, chests of drawers and other furniture for the arts and crafts classroom, which is used by the students of A LA PAR School during their extracurricular activities.

A day in which to enjoy with colleagues of the company, and at the same time have the opportunity to learn about the daily life of workers with disabilities and the great work done by this foundation.

The Vertex Foundation has also contributed with the necessary funding to equip the classroom with this new furniture, as well as a “kitchenette” used by the students and in the recreational activities of Fundaland, the inclusive and educational park of A LA PAR.

A day that ended with the sharing of the day’s menu at FUNBAR, where participants were able to exchange experiences and conclusions of a day of mutual learning.

The benefits of volunteering:

This activity has allowed the team of volunteers of the company:

  • Strengthen ties and bonds
  • Promote positive values such as diversity through various inclusive activities
  • Contribute to the normalization of intellectual disabilities
  • And to make visible the capabilities and possibilities of the Foundation’s users, contributing to its purpose.

Foundations such as A LA PAR do indispensable work for us to build a more egalitarian society in which we all fit.

A day that has allowed me to learn firsthand about the real integration of people with intellectual disabilities in the world of work.
