Corporate Volunteering as an essential part of that commitment
As part of its commitment to human, animal and planetary health, Boehringer Ingelheim promotes corporate volunteering among its employees as part of its sustainability activities. On the occasion of the day on which the company celebrates its values, several simultaneous activities were organized that mobilized 200 volunteers.
These activities were carried out in collaboration with the Spanish Red Cross, the Food Bank, Seo Birdlife and the Centre de Acollida Assís, and were chosen because they were aligned with the company’s Sustainable Development strategy for future generations, in favor of the communities and the environment.
The people who participated in the various activities carried out highlighted values and feelings such as:

2,000 Kg for the Food Bank
Boehringer Ingelheim Spain has been collaborating for several years with FESBAL, the Spanish Federation of the Bank of Spain through both financial and in-kind collections. This year it has set a new and important goal: to collect a total of 2,000 kg of basic foodstuffs for the neediest families.
A day at the Cruz Roja humanitarian center
The second activity carried out on this special day was a visit to the Red Cross humanitarian center in San Martí de Tous. The purpose of the visit was twofold:
- Firstly, to make the team aware of the need for all the actions they carry out. The Red Cross Humanitarian Center aims to be more than a logistics warehouse, it is a center for dissemination and awareness of their humanitarian work, having as its mission to be a Hub in humanitarian and emergency issues. A space in which to account for and publicize the traceability of Red Cross action at international, national and local levels.
- And secondly, the volunteers also collaborated in various logistical tasks of classification and separation of the various basic necessities required by the project.
"It is a very important collaboration because it allows us to raise awareness, and in the end some of the workers can become volunteers or members of the Red Cross, which in the end is our engine and sense of being."
231kg. of garbage removed from the Llobregat river bank
Finally, more than 100 collaborators went to clean up the Llobregat riverbank, with the help of SEO Birdlife, a consolidated organization in the conservation of birds and the territories where they live.
In a single morning, 231 kg of garbage were removed: 53 kg of plastics, 40 kg of glass, 6.5 kg of paper and 131.5 kg of other waste. Hundreds of people from the surrounding area will benefit from the recovered natural spaces.
