What are learning communities?
Learning Communities (LCs) implement a series of Successful Educational Actions (SEAs) with the purpose of transforming education and society.
It is an educational model that is in line with international scientific theories, which have identified two key elements for learning:
Interactions
And the participation and involvement of the community.
Volunteering in Learning Communities
Families, former students, members of associations, interns, other students and other professionals and community agents can volunteer in the Learning Communities, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Their presence reinforces meaningful interactions and provides positive references for the children, without replacing the role of the teacher, who continues to manage the classroom.
- In addition, volunteering promotes a deeper understanding of school work.
- It raises learning expectations
And it fosters solidarity and mutual learning.

What types of volunteering can be done in the Learning Communities
Volunteers in the Learning Communities can perform, and in fact there are already experiences of them performing, very diverse activities:
From participating in the classrooms themselves by energizing interactive groups of students.
Participating in mixed work commissions formed by teachers, families, volunteers, etc. offering support in extracurricular activities.
And/or training of family members.
Among many other daily activities that may occur in a school. But volunteers, in addition to providing this socio-educational support:
They actively participate in the Dialogic Model of Conflict Prevention and Resolution in which they are being trained.
At the same time, they reinforce the culture of 0 Violence in schools, which is also key in the CdA model.
International Meeting of Learning Communities

The network of Learning Communities organizes the International Meetings of Learning Communities in different regions of Spain, bringing together hundreds of teachers, families, volunteers and students from Learning Communities and centers that implement Successful Educational Actions (SEA) from all over Spain and several European countries.
During these meetings, dialogues are shared on scientific evidence of social impact and experiences of reference centers that are achieving real educational and social transformations such as improving academic results and reducing absenteeism or early school leaving, effectively combating social exclusion.
This year, the XII International Meeting of Learning Communities will be held on June 8 in Valencia, at the San José – Jesuitas Schools on the central theme: “Science and Impact on Educational Success for All”, with the aim of contributing to the educational and social improvement of the community through scientific empowerment.
We encourage you to participate and volunteer at a CoA! Your attendance will allow you to benefit from the scientific contributions that transform social inequalities, as well as the voices of education professionals, families, volunteers and students who apply ESE in their environments, and the social impact they are achieving in their communities.
