A Mentoring Marathon for Rural Organisations in Colombia

With the aim of promoting the sustainable economic development of the Colombian countryside, Volies has been accompanying the Fundación Bancolombia in the design and implementation of a “Mentoring Marathon” to help rural organisations and enterprises solve specific management challenges.

The starting point of this activity is to recognise and harness the enormous talent of employees as one of its greatest assets. This talent has been at the heart of the project.

Specifically, 3 workshops have been held, one in person and two in virtual mode, which has facilitated greater participation of employees and beneficiary organisations, increasing the impact obtained.

Specifically, 12 rural organisations from various regions of the country took part in the marathon: San José del Guaviare – Guaviare, Carepa – Antioquia, Gigante – Huila, Pueblo Bello – Cesar, Montes de María – Sucre, Armenia – Quindío, Tibasosa – Boyacá, Copacabana – Antioquia, Neiva – Huila, Córdoba – Nariño, El retiro – Antioquia and San Carlos – Antioquia.

The support and advice provided by the 45 mentors from different areas of the Bank and from various regions of the country has focused on key areas for the organisations, such as communication strategy and social networks, improving the accounting model, optimising the data collection scheme or expanding their business to new markets, among others.

To achieve the proposed objectives, Volies moderated the Mentoring Marathon using a methodology based on Design for Wise Action, through which the teams of mentors and organisations were able to identify the challenges and work on a roadmap with specific activities to implement this 2024 and respond to the challenge.

The Bancolombia Foundation also recognised and praised the committed work of its volunteers, highlighting their dedication, commitment and generosity, and emphasising the significant impact on the transformation of each person with whom they share and the contribution to the development of rural communities, entrepreneurs and students in Colombia.
