When a large company enters a new region, it faces a challenge: to commit to integrating into the local environment, becoming a good neighbor and an active member of the community that contributes positive value to its surroundings.
This does not happen automatically. It is not built through a single project.
And, of course, it does not depend solely on financial investments.
It is built through a sustained strategy of social impact: listening, collaborating, creating opportunities, and forging real partnerships with the local community.
In Aragón, this approach has led to something far more significant than a mere collection of initiatives: an ecosystem of impact where businesses, institutions, and society move forward together.
Over the past few years, Amazon Web Services has driven projects related to education, employability, innovation, sustainability, and social action through the development of its Amazon InCommunities program, working hand in hand with NGOs, public administrations, and local stakeholders.
The result is a vibrant network of relationships that strengthens both the region and the company itself.
Highlighting the Impact: The Importance of Pausing to Reflect
Every community engagement strategy needs a pivotal moment: showcasing what has been built.
Because many partnerships operate in parallel, and not all stakeholders know each other.
And because impact, if not shared, loses some of its transformative power.
With this goal in mind, on the occasion of Aragón Day, Amazon brought together more than 300 people for a gathering that was much more than just an event.
It was an exercise in collective recognition attended by Kerry Person, Global Vice President of Data Centers at Amazon Web Services (AWS), alongside other global executives from the company.
Mayors, institutions, NGOs, social organizations, and local stakeholders came together to celebrate a shared vision: the transformation of a region is always a shared effort.
When an event becomes a strategic tool
This is where many organizations make a difference.
An event can be about logistics, or it can be about strategy.
At Volies Comms&Events, we approach events from the latter perspective: we design purpose-driven events that not only bring people together, but also build narratives, foster connections, and strengthen brand positioning.
In this case, the challenge was clear: to transform years of impact into a tangible, emotional, and shared experience.
Under the concept “Together we build community,” the event was designed as a living representation of the ecosystem built in Aragón.
From bystanders to protagonists and co-creators
The event was designed to bring everyone together around a shared purpose, creating dynamic spaces where attendees could experience firsthand the projects launched by Amazon and the organizations that are part of the ecosystem. Robotics workshops, olive oil tastings, and sports games—all in an unbeatable location: the fan zone of Real Zaragoza Football Club, an official Amazon partner that hosted this special event.
Another key element was an installation that encapsulated the entire strategy: a large map of Aragon constructed as a puzzle.
A visual metaphor that depicted the ecosystem as a puzzle, reflecting how real impact isn’t generated by a single organization alone, but by the connection between all its pieces.
Each piece represented:
- a partnership,
- a project,
- and a contribution to the region.
But there was a key nuance: the map was not complete.
Attendees were invited to write messages, reflections, and wishes on postcards that were incorporated into the map itself.
In this way, the ecosystem continued to grow in real time, and we turned the participants into protagonists and co-creators.
Volies' role: developing community engagement strategies
At Volies, we view community relations as a strategic initiative.
It’s not just about launching social projects, but about building sustainable relationships between the company and the community.
In this case, our role over the past five years has been to support Amazon in:
- Translating a long-term strategy into impactful actions and relationships with social actors in the region
- Engaging corporate volunteers as key players in this strategy, reinforcing a sense of belonging
- Building a narrative consistent with the impact generated
Because when a community recognizes itself as such, the bond is strengthened.
Beyond the Event: Building a Legacy in the Community
What makes this case significant isn’t just the event itself. It’s what it represents.
It represents a way of doing business where growth goes hand in hand with the local community.
Where investment is accompanied by commitment.
And where partnerships are seen as a key infrastructure for the future.
In a context where companies need to demonstrate their impact in tangible ways, a community engagement strategy has established itself as one of the most powerful tools for:
- building trust
- strengthening reputation
- fostering collaboration
- and establishing legitimacy
Because companies that build community don’t just grow—they endure.
SHALL WE TALK?
