With the aim of bringing a dose of joy, imagination, and hope to children admitted to the University Hospital of Valladolid, employees from Campofrío’s factory in Ólvega (Soria) took part in a corporate volunteering activity in collaboration with the Pequeño Deseo Foundation to create real “Superpower Suits.”
Starting with a cape, a mask, wristbands, and several accessories, the volunteers handcrafted original costumes that were donated to the hospital, where they will be given to young patients to turn them into true superheroes. The “Superpower Suits” also include small pockets carrying handwritten letters from Campofrío employees in Ólvega, offering words of encouragement to uplift both the children and their families.
“As an active member of the communities where we operate, we are committed to promoting corporate volunteering through initiatives that convey positive values and raise social awareness among our employees, especially in situations as sensitive as those experienced by hospitalized children,” said Luis Alberto Sanz, Director of Campofrío’s Ólvega factory.
In this regard, Benedetta Falletti, Project Director at Volies and Director of Voluntare, the Corporate Volunteering Network of which Campofrío and its parent company, Sigma, are members, highlighted that “social transformation begins when each person recognizes themselves as an agent of change. Only by understanding our society and its challenges can we generate the impact we truly aspire to create. Corporate volunteering is a unique tool in this journey: it connects companies with people and enables them to turn intention into action.”
The Pequeño Deseo Foundation was founded 25 years ago with the mission of fulfilling the wishes of children and teenagers with serious illnesses and complex treatments, offering emotional support through the realization of their greatest wish, living unforgettable experiences, having something special, or meeting someone meaningful, with the objective of generating positive emotions that directly impact their well-being and their ability to cope with illness.
“Through these Superpower Suits, Campofrío’s volunteers share strength, encouragement, and care with the children admitted to the University Hospital of Valladolid. With every cape and every mask, they help make wishes come true, which is our core mission. It’s a simple gesture, but one with tremendous power: the power to turn hope into part of the healing process,” explained Leticia Fernández, Director of Fundraising at the Pequeño Deseo Foundation.
