Savia: Opening up senior residences to the world through volunteering”, has been recognized in the 10th Edition of the Supercuidadores Awards.

The project summarizes the work carried out by Savia Residencias during the last year and a half with the purpose of strengthening the active involvement of the community to improve the lives of the elderly in the residences.

To this end, Volies, a social enterprise certified as a B Corp and expert in this type of alliances, launched in 2023 a “Strategy for Social and Environmental Commitment and Corporate Volunteering”, involving companies, NGOs, associations, schools, institutes, universities and , as a pioneer, the residents themselves, promoting their active aging, their contribution to the community and the transfer of their legacy to society.

In this project we have managed to involve all of the company's stakeholders for the benefit and well-being of the residents, gradually returning the openness that should correspond to them after the Covid era to the residential centers, and the status of “neighbors” to the residents themselves, which they should never lose, being key agents of their neighborhoods and part of them.

More than 4,000 volunteers have benefited 15,300 residents in nearly 1,000 actions

During the last year, more than 4,000 volunteers of all colors, ages and diversities have approached the 22 centers that Savia has spread throughout the Valencian Community, promoting intergenerationality and work with other groups, such as people with disabilities, migrants or young people in situations of social vulnerability .

Almost 1,000 actions have been carried out that have directly benefited 15,300 residents who have participated in them. An ambitious and innovative project, with the elderly always at the center, encouraging their active role in the activities with volunteers, listening to their priorities and interests, and promoting activities focused on developing their cognitive stimulation, learning and intercultural value.

But also, promoting actions where the elderly have gone from being the subject of the volunteer activity to the absolute protagonists of them. For example:

    • Offer professional feedback to future university students in business rounds.
    • Participate in dialogic gatherings with children.
    • Teach traditional recipes to the youngest, preserving the culinary legacy, or share their life stories with them.
    • Participate in Social Innovation methodologies such as the World Café.
    • Training to be “host companions” for new resident incorporations.
    • As well as encouraging participation in social and fundraising activities in collaboration with NGOs in the local environment, activating their role as volunteers in the community.
