On October 29, 2024, several municipalities, mainly in the province of Valencia, suffered the effects of a devastating DANA. One of the biggest environmental catastrophes experienced in recent years in Spain, which resulted in 227 deaths, 87 affected municipalities in which 850,000 people live, more than 120,000 vehicles lost and it is estimated that more than 11,000 companies were affected, employing 154,000 workers.
When six months have passed since that fateful date for the Valencian people, we look back to take stock of how from Volies we have been able to contribute to alleviate this situation.
Although it is difficult to find something positive, if anything has been agreed by all citizens is the vital role played by volunteers. Quickly, spontaneously, self-organized and effective, a wave of solidarity was awakened from the next morning. Volunteers were the protagonists of the weeks and months that followed.
As a Valencian company, whose focus is corporate volunteering, we are very proud of what we have experienced, and of how important the figure of volunteers has become after the DANA. A movement, largely led by young people. And of the great amount of generosity and affection shown by all our collaborators, companies, NGOs, family and friends, who have given and continue to do so with the municipalities and people affected.
This is a small excerpt of what we have been able from Volies to promote and coordinate in these months. But the tremendous solidarity generated does not fit in any document.
