This week we had the pleasure of attending two events organized by the European Volunteer Centre (CEV) in Brussels.
1. At the event “Unlocking the Potential of Volunteering and Solidarity in Europe”, we explored strategies to strengthen volunteering and unlock its potential. Some of the most relevant takeaways were:
🔹 More investment for greater impact: Volunteering is cross-sectoral and a driving force for social development that requires more resources to maximize its impact.
🔹 Measuring impact: One of the key challenges remains collecting reliable data on the impact of volunteering.
🔹 Intergenerational connection: Volunteering can bridge the gap between young and older people, fostering skill development and promoting the exchange of experiences.
These discussions are essential for continuing to promote the role of volunteering in building a more connected and solidary society. Let’s keep working towards that!
2. Same week, we took part in a pilot workshop on gender equality in leadership positions within Civil Society Organizations (CSO) linked to volunteering. The conversation focused on the need to better reflect diversity in the CSO’s Boards, especially considering that women dedicate more time to volunteering than men and yet are less likely to have a representation in leadership roles.
It was a pleasure to meet colleagues from different organizations across Europe and share ideas and experiences to build a more equitable and diverse future.
At Volies we will continue to promote corporate volunteering and diversity management in our projects from this community perspective.
